Patna, January 15
Much to the embarrassment of the Nitish government, ruling JD (U) MLA Neeraj Kumar Singh was reportedly charged with indulging in extortion and misbehaving with the manager of the construction firm, Gamon India.
An FIR was filed against the MLA on a complaint by the construction company, which was involved in the construction of East-West Corridor under the Prime Minister’s Golden Quadrilateral project in Bihar.
Gamon India local manager Ramesh Madhubhasi was reported to have lodged the complaint. He has stated in the complaint that upon reaching the camp office of the construction company located at Madhubani village in Suphaul district of Bihar on January 6, Neeraj misbehaved with the camp office manager P.K. Basak. Besides, the MLA also allegedly had asked for Rs 9 lakh per month from Basak to allow the company to work in the area.
After the local manager informed the head office of the company in Mumbai about the incident, he was asked to file an FIR against the MLA and his associates. Subsequently the FIR was lodged in the Balua bazar police station yesterday. The police said an inquiry was on into the incident.
Pleading innocence, the MLA, however, argued that he had gone to the camp office to demand adequate compensation to the locals whose land had been acquired for the construction of the road as well as giving employment to them in the construction work. “Charges against me are false,” the MLA was reported to have claimed.
