Bhutto Killing
PPP to send request for UN probe today

Karachi, January 15
With the government apparently not responding to its demand for a UN probe into the killing of Benazir Bhutto, her husband Asif Ali Zardari today said the Pakistan People’s Party will directly approach the world body tomorrow.

Zardari, who was here to meet investigators from Britain’s Scotland Yard probing Bhutto’s killing, told a news conference that the PPP would stick to its demand for an inquiry by the United Nations despite the government ruling out such a probe.

“The PPP will never give up on its demand and will despatch its complaint directly to the UN tomorrow. Simultaneously, the party will launch a massive campaign to explain why a UN-led inquiry is necessary,” he said.

“The more the regime runs away from a UN probe, the more it exposes its complicity in the assassination of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto,” he said.

The PPP also has no faith in the probe being done by Pakistani agencies as it “cannot expose the hidden but powerful conspirators”, he said. — PTI
