3 electrocuted

Kapurthala, January 12
A pall of gloom descended at a Kapurthala village, Lakhwariya, falling under Sultanpur Lodhi subdivision, on the eve of Lohri today as three young devotees were electrocuted when they were trying to change the ‘chola’ sahib’ of the Nishan Sahib (cloth wrapped around the Nishan Sahib) in the village gurdwara.

Confirming this, Sultanpur Lodhi SHO Lakhwinder Singh told The Tribune the deceased were identified as Gurpreet Singh (24), Harpreet Singh and Manpreet Singh (both around 18).

According to sources, the mishap took place when one of the iron wires, with which the Nishan Sahib was tied, touched with the electric wire.

One of the devotees switched off the nearby transformer to stop the supply of the electricity into the wire in no time. However, till then three persons were killed and five others were injured.

The injured were Yadwinder Singh, Gurdev Singh, Harjit Singh, Gurbachan Singh and Dashan Singh.
