Congress conspiring to kill me: Maya

Charge denied

I am unable to understand why is she leveling such charges. The Union Government can never be part of such conspiracies, especially the Congress can never be a participant in such matters.

AICC general secretary

New Delhi, January 7
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today accused the ruling Congress and UPA government of hatching a conspiracy of eliminating her physically so that the biggest political hurdle in its electoral success was removed.

Addressing her luncheon press conference in the capital, Mayawati said she had enough evidence of the conspiracy and stated that some Congress leaders were giving “shelter” to former Samajwadi Lok Sabha MP Atiq Ahmad who was trying to get me killed in the name of “terrorism”. The state government has declared Atiq Ahmad an absconder, she said, and sought to offer a proof of the UPA government’s involvement by saying that despite transfer of Ahmad’s case to the CBI seven months ago, the country’s premier investigating agency is yet to start a probe into it.

She went to add another circumstantial evidence of the Congress albeit UPA’s hand in the conspiracy by saying that the Centre was not prepared to give her SPG protection.

Responding to several allegations of her political opponents that terrorist attacks in UP are on the rise because she had no time for the state as she was constantly on tour outside the state, the Chief Minister dismissed with utter contempt saying that she was not only a Chief Minister but also the president of a national party and in that capacity she has to undertake trips to expand the base of the BSP.

Giving reasons for the Congress’ nervousness towards her and the BSP, Mayawati said the Congress was blaming her and her party for its defeat in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh which was not correct because the country’s oldest party has lost due to her policies and ineffective administration.

She also described the Delhi government’s decision to carry identity proof by every person visiting the union capital as “anti-constitutional”.

Responding to Mayawati’s tirade, Congress spokesperson Jayanti Natarajan described her allegations as baseless and added that they appeal to the Prime Minister and the Centre to extend whatever security is required for the BSP chief.

However, the party was unfazed with Mayawati’s threat to withdraw support. “This is a democracy and it is entirely her prerogative to take any decision,” Natarajan added.
