Congress President Sonia Gandhi has been admitted to a city hospital following “mild breathing difficulty” and a chest infection.
The 61-year-old UPA chairperson was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram spital late last night and was diagnosed with having chest infection, a hospital statement said. Her condition is stable now.
Gandhi was having “cough and mild breathing difficulty” when she was admitted, the statement said, adding that treatment has started and “her condition is better now”.
However, there was no word on when she is likely to be discharged from the hospital.
“There is nothing to worry,” sources at her 10 Janpath residence said. Her children Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka, who were away on a vacation, are expected back either today or tomorrow, they said.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today spoke to Sonia Gandhi and extended New Year greetings. Singh spoke to Gandhi over phone and enquired about her health, sources said.
