Re-probe Tytler’s role: Court
Rejects closure of case; orders CBI to examine US-based witness
New Delhi, December 18
A city court today rejected the CBI’s closure report against Congress leader and former minister Jagdish Tytler about his alleged role in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and ordered fresh investigation by examining the US-based key witness, Jasbir Singh, who had filed an affidavit before the Nanavati Commission.

The Privileges Committee of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha has in a report tabled in the House recommended registration of a case against two former employees of the Assembly besides indirectly indicting Chaudhary Jagjit Singh.

Naxals in Beur Jail force govt to order judicial probe
Patna, December 18
The Nitish government today ordered a judicial probe into the circumstances that led Nagina Manjhi, 40, a member of the outlawed Naxalite outfit, to commit suicide inside the high security Beur Jail on December 14. Manjhi was found hanging from the iron gate of the jail infirmary where he was being treated for a minor ailment.

The police on Monday released sketches of two suspects wanted in the slayings of two Indian students at Louisiana State University. The first suspect is believed to have been the driver. He is a black male, estimated to be in his 20s. His hair was done in twists in rows. He was wearing a white hooded sweatshirt.

As Himachal Pradesh goes to polls tomorrow, the police in the state will face a different kind of problem: Keeping an extra check on goons trying to carry firearms. Authorities in most of the districts in the hill state have not made it mandatory for licensed firearm owners to deposit weapons with the respective police stations this time.
