Brother Pravin held guilty
Mumbai, December 17
Pravin Mahajan has been found guilty of murdering his brother and BJP leader Pramod Mahajan. Pramod, who was shot on April 22, 2006, at his home in Mumbai, had died in a hospital 12 days later. Pravin, who allegedly surrendered to the police after pulling the trigger on his brother, was found guilty of murder by a sessions court.

SGPC Educational Institutes Case
HC: Sikhs not minority community in Punjab
Chandigarh, December 17
The Punjab and Haryana High Court today declared the notifications proclaiming the Sikh education institutions run by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee in Punjab as “minority institutions” as void. The development is significant as these institutes would not be able to reserve up to 50 per cent of the seats for the members of the Sikh community.

Security breach at PM’s rally: chopper pilots held
Bilaspur, December 17
The pilot and the co-pilot of an Air Deccan helicopter were today arrested for allegedly breaching the security at the venue of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s rally by landing their chopper there. The incident took place at Luhnu ground around 1.15 pm.

Kolkata, December 17
Tempers of the aggrieved farmers at Singur flared up once again today at the unnatural death of Sankar Patra, a 52-year-old Bhumi Raksha Committee member. Patra’s body was found hanging from a tree near his hutment at the Tashes Bheri today when in Kolkata.

US willing to offer advanced spy plane to India
New Delhi/Washington, December 17
The US is willing to offer its most advanced maritime spy plane, the advanced Hawkeye-2D, to India. According to a report in the forthcoming issue of India Strategic defence magazine, the Indian Navy had issued an RFI (Request for Information) for the aircraft to the US government some time back.
