Patil: Blast link beyond the border

Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil today hinted at cross-border links in the blast at Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti's Durgah here on Thursday, saying there could be a foreign hand behind the terror act which left two persons dead and several injured.

A Hyderabad connection is now emerging in the Ajmer blast case with the police suspecting that Syed Saleem, a city youth who was killed in the explosion, could have triggered the terror attack.

22 die of leptospirosis in Mumbai
Mumbai, October 13
Twentytwo persons died in Mumbai in September after contracting leptospirosis, according to data released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. Leptospirosis is caused after dung and urine of rats find its way into the blood streams of humans when they wade through areas flooded by rain water.

President Pratibha Devisingh Patil has congratulated the Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change, chaired by R.K. Pachauri, for sharing this year’s Nobel Peace Prize along with former US Vice-President Al Gore. Patil said the award was recognition for the crucial work done by Pachauri and his team members on the IPCC for the benefit of humanity and future generations.
