Congress president Sonia Gandhi here today said that women bore the brunt of natural, social or political onslaughts and women empowerment was necessary. This could be achieved through education and by providing them with ample opportunities.

Vehicle attacked ahead of visit

Hours before the arrival of Sonia Gandhi militants targeted a CRPF vehicle in the city injuring a woman cop, official sources said. Militants detonated an IED planted along the road at Katidarwaza when a CRPF vehicle carrying prisoners for court hearing passed by, the sources said, adding that a woman cop was injured. — PTI
