A Tribune Debate
I
ndia has achieved a lot in the 60 years since Independence and now it is poised for playing a bigger role in the 21st century. But these 60 years have also seen many shortcomings and failures. The Constitution itself is under strain; Parliament, the executive, the judiciary, political parties and other institutions engaged in the governance of the country of over a billion people are not functioning as they ought to. While India’s ambitions have soared high, the quality of democracy has sadly declined.
