A week of heavy rains has turned green fields into vast expanses of water across much of Bihar with millions of people driven from their flooded homes, huddling together on stretches of raised embankments, on roofs and bridges — hungry, thirsty and desperate.

Welfare centres to rescue of troubled NRIs
New Delhi, August 5
Indians abroad who fall into difficult times can soon turn to welfare centres being set up at Indian missions to provide financial, legal and medical help. “Initially, there will be three such centres - in Dubai, Washington and Kuala Lumpur - and these will come into operation by October this year,” a senior official in the ministry of overseas Indian affairs (MOIA) told IANS.
