Capt gets pre-arrest bail

In an order of major consequence, coming in the wake of an extensive debate on the contours of bail under Section 438 of the CrPC, Justice Ranjit Singh today granted pre-arrest bail to Capt Amarinder Singh till the filing of a challan against him.

Islamabad, July 30
Hundreds of militants in Pakistan's Northwest Frontier Province have forcibly occupied a local mosque and named it after Islamabad's Lal Masjid while vowing to continue the mission of slain radical cleric Maulana Abdul Rashid Ghazi. The militants have also decided to establish a seminary similar to Jamia Hafsa, the girls’ madrasa attached to Lal Masjid which was razed to the ground by the government after its capture early this month.

Legendary Swedish film director Ingmar Bergman, who influenced a generation of film-makers with his often stark works on themes of mortality and sexual torment, died on Monday at the age of 89.

Dowry cases against Arjun, family
Lucknow, July 30
The Uttar Pradesh police has registered a dowry harassment case against union human resource development minister Arjun Singh, his wife and five other family members.
The case, under Section 323, 324, 325, 498 (A), 506 and 304 of the IPC, was registered on the directives of the chief judicial magistrate at Chandausi police station in Moradabad district last night. In video (56k)
