A crisis-ridden Bharatiya Janata Party today sought to arrest growing dissidence in the party by suspending five known anti-Narendra Modi MLAs in Gujarat. Hoping to tackle growing dissidence in the party before the Assembly elections later this year.

EPF interest rate remains 8.5 pc

Under pressure from Left-backed trade unions, the Employees Provident Fund Board today agreed to retain 8.5 per cent interest rate to its nearly four crore subscribers for the financial year 2006-07 even as there was indication over the possibility of an upward revision for the current fiscal. An uneasy detente has been achieved or so it seems. The Division Bench, comprising Justice M.M. Kumar and Justice Surya Kant, tonight stayed in part the operation of Justice Uma Nath Singh’s order, whereby, Tahar Singh, a lawyer, had been put into CBI custody and was further ordered to be taken to Mental Hospital, Agra.
