Ghazi killed as troops storm Masjid
40 militants, 8 commandos gunned down
Islamabad, July 10

Pakistan troops seized control of the Lal Masjid after 14 grueling hours of fierce fighting with militants which left at least 60 dead, including defiant cleric Abdul Rashid Ghazi and eight commandos of Pakistan's ace SSG and 40 militants.

Govt places orders for wheat import
New Delhi, July 10
The government has placed orders for import of 511,000 tons of wheat from global suppliers who last week bid for a tender to supply one million tons of the grain. "The decision was taken to ensure food security," a government official said. Of the seven companies that had bid, orders were placed with three — Cargill, Toepfer and Riaz — who had quoted the lowest price in the range of 318-370 dollars a ton.

Stray dogs kill 8-year-old girl in Amritsar
Amritsar, July 10
In a bizarre incident, stray dogs killed an 8-year-old girl near the Majitha bypass road here today. According to eyewitnesses, Priya was going on the bypass road, near her village Naushehra Khurd, around 8 am when stray dogs pounced on her.
