At least seven
persons were killed and 25 others injured as a blast
triggered by Ulfa militants rocked Anthgaon areas in the
heart of the city even as the police found a powerful bomb
on the Up Brahmaputra Mail in Kokrajhar in western Assam
today.

In a move to effectively address
the emerging security concerns, the Centre today launched the
multi-purpose “National Identity Card” at Narela in the capital city
as part of a pilot project which may eventually be extended throughout
the country by issuing a chip-based smart ID cards to all citizens.
Mishro Shankar Lal shows the replica of the Multipurpose National Identity Card (MNIC), issued to her in Delhi on Saturday. Mishro is the first Indian to get the card.

Farmer kills himself
Sangrur: A debt-ridden farmer allegedly committed suicide at Dhurkot village of Barnala district this morning, the police said here. The deceased, identified as 36-year-old Bhola Singh, hanged himself from a tree at the village cremation ground. He is survived by his wife and two children.
