7 killed, 25 hurt in Ulfa blast
Guwahati, May 26
At least seven persons were killed and 25 others injured as a blast triggered by Ulfa militants rocked Anthgaon areas in the heart of the city even as the police found a powerful bomb on the Up Brahmaputra Mail in Kokrajhar in western Assam today.

In a move to effectively address the emerging security concerns, the Centre today launched the multi-purpose “National Identity Card” at Narela in the capital city as part of a pilot project which may eventually be extended throughout the country by issuing a chip-based smart ID cards to all citizens.

Farmer kills himself
Sangrur:
A debt-ridden farmer allegedly committed suicide at Dhurkot village of Barnala district this morning, the police said here. The deceased, identified as 36-year-old Bhola Singh, hanged himself from a tree at the village cremation ground. He is survived by his wife and two children. — UNI
