After a series of deliberations, closed-door meetings, clarifications and assurances, the Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda was undecided until late in the evening whether to tender a conditional or unqualified apology to Akal Takht to bring to an end the unsavoury controversy generated over the dera chief’s alleged imitation of Guru Gobind Singh and replication of the baptismal ceremony.

The Akali leadership and the Punjab Government have not liked the spoilsport’s role by SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar yesterday to disrupt the amicable settlement with dera Sacha Sauda jeopardising the peace in the state.

Supreme Court has been approached in a public interest
litigation, seeking a direction to the centre, Punjab,
Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir and Chandigarh administration
to take immediate steps to defuse tension in the region
and restore peace and public order.

The vigilance bureau
has begun the process of questioning former Chief Minister
by sending a list of 56 questions by post to him for his
alleged role in the city centre scam, alleged hawala
