A peaceful bandh in Punjab and positive indications from the negotiations the all-religion delegation had with representatives of Dera Sacha Sauda have raised hopes of an amicable settlement of the controversy that erupted with the insertion of dera advertisements in newspapers on May 13.

Toughening its stand on the blasphemous acts of the Dera Sacha Sauda chief, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee today announced that Sikhs could make any sacrifice to stop any attempt of denigration of Sikh Gurus, Guru Granth Sahib and Sikh institutions.

The special court set up under the Terrorism And Disruptive Activities Act to hear the serial bomb blasts that rocked Mumbai in 1993 today pronounced sentences on five more persons, who had transported explosives used in the blasts.
Land acquisition only with farmers’ consent

In what could turn out to be a beneficial scheme for farmers, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today agreed in principle to approve a new land acquisition policy that will make farmers stake holders in the development of commercial, housing and industrial projects.

Punjab sees new light
In a move that could result in the availability of 150 MW of additional power to Punjab, the state government today decided to replace traditional incandescent lamps with the energy saving compact fluorescent lamps in government buildings and offices.
