Toughening its stand on the blasphemous acts of the Dera Sacha Sauda chief, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee today announced that Sikhs could make any sacrifice to stop any attempt of denigration of Sikh Gurus, Guru Granth Sahib and Sikh institutions.

Takht ready to soften stand
Amritsar, May 23
In a significant development Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti said today that if Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh tenders a public apology for his blasphemous acts, the Sikh clergy could discuss the matter in its forthcoming meeting to be held on May 31.

5 more sentenced in Mumbai blasts case

The special court set up under the Terrorism And Disruptive Activities Act to hear the serial bomb blasts that rocked Mumbai in 1993 today pronounced sentences on five more persons, who had transported explosives used in the blasts.

Land acquisition only with farmers’ consent
Chandigarh, May 23
In what could turn out to be a beneficial scheme for farmers, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today agreed in principle to approve a new land acquisition policy that will make farmers stake holders in the development of commercial, housing and industrial projects.
A significant clause in the new policy provides for a stake to the farmer in development projects on the land acquired from him

Punjab sees new light
In a move that could result in the availability of 150 MW of additional power to Punjab, the state government today decided to replace traditional incandescent lamps with the energy saving compact fluorescent lamps in government buildings and offices.
