The
1965 India-Pakistan War
IAF’s ground reality
In
more ways than one, the 1965 India-Pakistan War was a watershed for
the Indian Air Force.
Air Commodore Jasjit Singh (retd) looks
at the many dimensions of this conflict. Exclusive extracts from his
new book
The
Indo-Pakistan War of 1965
was the first time in the history of Independent India when our
military power was confronted by a hostile air force at a time when
Pakistan had launched a surprise invasion into India and, hence, also
achieved substantive strategic and tactical surprise.
His

Simon!`A0 Does the name
ring a bell? May be not for`A0the rookies in literature or movies. But
to this writer it rings a gong and every year since I saw his Barefoot
in the Park (Robert Redford and Jane Fonda) in the late 1960s, I
looked forward to his new play-turned-film. Oh was he`A0prolific! A
new play each year, almost.
Pulse
of a city
Life in a Metro is
a jet-paced film that captures the perpetual rush in the urban
concrete jungle, writes Shoma A. Chatterji
Passion.
Loyalty. Romance. Lust. Love. Stress. Sex. Emotions tend to run amok
in any metro city in India. Anurag Basu’s Life in a Metro is
all about this and more. Life becomes a roller-coaster ride of
emotions that run a race against each other, against time, against
people who may or may not be your near and dear ones.
The
many shades of conflict
M. L. Dhawan
Cinema
has revelled in the
various opportunities of drama and emotion offered by conflicts. In
fact, it has thrived on it for conflict is the muse around which many
stories have been woven. Where there is proximity, there arise
conflicts. Most dramatic conflicts arise within the family and there
is too often love underlying it all.
Rahul’s
jumbo passion
Actor
Rahul Khanna has joined
the ‘save the elephant’ campaign and stars in the new anti-zoo ad
made by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

Anantharaman on the Chennai-based organisation Tulir that
tackles child abuse
Child
sexual abuse (CSA) and its
prevention have become major problems in all countries, particularly
in India, with the absence of specific laws against CSA and the lack
of awareness on the subject. CSA can occur both within families,
social groups and in underprivileged situations, such as in
orphanages. The abuse of children by tourists also falls under CSA.
Family
turmoil takes toll of teens
A
new study has found that
teens who are chronically exposed to family turmoil, violence, noise,
poor housing or other chronic risk factors show more stress-induced
physiological strain on their organs and tissues than other young
people.
Tussaud’s
Indian connection
K.D.L. Khan
How
much does an Amitabh
Bachchan cost? Just $ 30,000 ! How much does a Shah Rukh Khan cost?
Well, nearly five times the amount—-$ 150,000. Before Big B’s fans
bash me up, let me confess that what I am referring to is the making
costs of wax statues of these two famous stars for the Wax Museum of
Madame Tussaud’s in the U.K.
