Prime Minister Manmohan Singh tonight dismissed Islamabad’s claims that the two South Asian nuclear neighbours were nearing settlement on the Kashmir issue, while announcing the decision to set up the Standing Committee and Oversight and Monitoring Mechanism to implement the recommendations of the Working Groups of the Kashmir Roundtable Conference.

3 IPS officers held
Ahmedabad, April 24
Three IPS officials, including one from Rajasthan, were today arrested by the Gujarat police on a charge of murder for their alleged role in the death of a man in a fake encounter here in 2005.

After failing to get the Supreme Court’s interim stay vacated on the OBC reservation in central education institutions (CEIs), the government today approached the Chief Justice of India for early hearing of a bunch of petitions challenging the validity of the new OBC Reservation Act in an effort to get it referred to a constitution Bench.

The Supreme Court has stayed criminal proceedings against the owners of four rice mills in Punjab in cases arising out of a legal wrangle over the custody of paddy supplied to them by the Punjab Civil Supplies Corporation (PUNSUP) for shelling.
Wheat arrival down in Punjab, Haryana

Wheat arrival in the mandis of Punjab is down by almost 28 per cent and in Haryana by 13 per cent this year. Holding back of stocks by farmers in order to get better renumeration for the produce later, hand harvesting to earn from the sale of wheat straw and late maturing of the crop have led to the slow arrivals.
