Mayor’s city round: All smoke, no fire Jalandhar, April 11
All he did, after alighting from his car at Bhhotan Mandi, was admonish a few officers, enter into a squabble with a passer-by, talk to mediapersons and get himself clicked by shutterbugs. Soon, he was seen back in his car, only to rush to his under-construction office at Guru Ravi Dass Dham. No effort was made by him to establish any contact with the shopkeepers or residents who had gathered around the main road where his car halted for a while. His first stop was at a point where high-tension electricity wires were seen hanging very low. He next halt was at another point, just few metres ahead, where he saw the road in a very bad shape. “ The rains have completely wreaked havoc. We do not have funds for laying the sewer system”, he made an excuse. As he stood there for a minute, he saw a few officers, who had been following him in a car, not getting down from their vehicle. Voicing his anger, he said, “When I am standing here, what are you doing inside.” However, the mayor was cornered by a passer-by who blamed the former for the pathetic state of roads. “Why don’t you do something,” he questioned the mayor. Later, while talking to mediapersons, Mahay said, “We plan to strengthen the road infrastructure. The pavement will have concrete flooring. The only problem here are the trees which are causing lot of trouble and making these roads accident-prone. The forest department has not paid any heed to our request to fell them.” Mahay said he would visit other localities to assess residents’ problems. Soon after, he was found taking a round of the two-storey under-construction building of Guru Ravi Dass Dham. He has been keenly involved in the project for the last four years. |
