The special trial court in Siwan
today awarded two-year rigorous imprisonment to the controversial RJD MP
Mohd. Shahabuddin for leading the attack on the Khurwabad party office
of the CPM in Siwan and subsequently assaulting the office secretary
Keshab Baitha in 1998.

Kolkata DGP, 5 others jailed
Kolkata, February 2
The Calcutta High Court today
punished DGP A.B. Vohra and five other senior state government
officials, including the DM and the SP of Jalpaiguri with six months
imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2,000 each on the charges of contempt of
court for not executing the court's orders. The orders were issued in
connection with setting up of a separate Circuit Bench in North Bengal.
