Inflation at 2-year high
New Delhi, February 15
In a desperate bid to stem the spurt in inflation, which has jumped to the highest in more than two years at 6.73 per cent, the Manmohan Singh Government today cut the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 2 and Re 1 a litre, respectively.

Price rise to figure in President’s Address
New Delhi, February 15
Worried over rising prices of essential commodities, the government has decided to be upfront on the issue, expected to figure prominently in President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s Address to a joint sitting of Parliament on the opening day of the Budget session on February 23.

Calling upon Air Force squadrons to equip themselves for technology driven warfare, the President and Supreme Commander of the armed forces, Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, said the winner of future warfare would be the force which could visualise the strength of the enemy.

Death for former MLA’s daughter, son-in-law restored
New Delhi, February 15
The death sentence to a daughter of former Haryana MLA Relu Ram and her husband was today restored by the Supreme Court for wiping out the entire family of her father in cold blood, termed as cruel, diabolic and dastardly act of crime by the court, committed six years ago due to greed for property.
They had murdered 8 of own family
Sonia and Sanjeev had mercilessly killed her father Relu Ram, mother Krishna, her sister Priyanka, stepbrother Sunil, his wife Shakuntla and their three children on August 23, 2001, at their farm house in Litani Mod in Hisar.

Disqualified MLAs resign in UP
Lucknow, February 15
As a follow-up of the Supreme Court judgment disqualifying 13 dissident BSP MLAs, six ministers resigned from the Mulayam Singh Yadav government this evening. The Chief Minister personally submitted their resignation letters to the Governor.

CBI seeks death for conspirators

The CBI today sought death penalty for all but three of the 47 people convicted for being party to the conspiracy behind the 1993 serial blasts here. The special TADA court of Judge P.D. Kode has convicted 100 of the 123 accused in the 1993 serial blast case.
