One person was killed and at least four injured when Congress men today allegedly opened fire on Akali workers near Sant Enclave here.

Stage rage: Notices to Singla, Sidhu
Amritsar, January 29
The Returning Officer here issued notices to Mr Surinder Singla and Mr Navjot Sidhu, Congress and the BJP candidates, respectively, for violating the code of conduct by levelling personal charges against each other during a TV debate last night.

Johns Hopkins award for Tribune photographer

This photograph by The Tribune photographer Pradeep Tewari has won the first prize in the global health category in the fourth Annual International Photoshare Photo Contest conducted by the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, USA. The photograph of an athletic meet was clicked by Pradeep Tewari in a slum on the periphery of Chandigarh. The award carries a cash prize of $ 500 and a Canon Digital Rebel XT camera.
