Projects announced by PM

The projects and schemes for the development of the state announced by the Prime Minister (According to the Chief Minister) during his visit to Amritsar were:

Sri Guru Ramdass Development Project for improving the water supply and sewerage of the city under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (Rs 180 crore)

Special package for improving health and education facilities in border districts (Rs 137 crore)

An industrial cluster to be developed at Batala under the industrial infrastructure up-gradation scheme (Rs 80 crore)

Four-laning of the Amritsar-Wagha road under the NHDP-III (Rs 200 crore)

Upgradation of facilities and construction of an inland port at Wagha with facilities for easy transit of goods and people (Rs 114 crore)

Construction of 500 km
of rural roads in the border districts (Rs 200 crore)

Establishment of two textile parks at Ludhiana and Barnala (Rs 50 crore)

Upgradation of Amritsar airport and setting up a perishable cargo facility for horticulture export (Rs 80 crore)

Construction of eight new rail overbridges: Bathinda (3), Malout (1), Abohar (1), Mansa (1), Maur Mandi (1) and Lehragaga (1) (Rs 250 crore)

Modernisation of Amritsar, Jalandhar and Ludhiana railway stations (Rs 300 crore)

Establishment of a logistics park at Ludhiana (Ladowal) which would be a major transport hub in North India (Rs 3,000 crore)

Development of Mohali as a knowledge city (Rs 500 crore)

Construction/ improvement/ upgradation/four-laning of the Jalandhar-Amritsar highway, Amritsar-Pathankot highway, Ludhiana-Moga-Talwandi highway and six-laning of the Chandigarh-Kiratpur highway and Panipat-Ambala-Chandigarh highway (Rs 4,100 crore)

The setting up of 600 MW of GVK Thermal Plant at Goindwal Sahib (Rs 3,000 crore).

The Prime Minister had already approved development projects/ schemes for Punjab worth Rs 10,446.80 crore.

These include:

Completion of the Khalsa Heritage Project at Sri Anandpur Sahib(Rs 48 crore)

Research and development of PAU, Ludhiana, (Rs 100 crore)

Establishment of the Indian Institute of Science at Mohali (Rs 500 crore)

Guru Ram Das Slum Development Project, Amritsar (Rs 240 crore),

Express Rail Freight Corridor (Rs 4,500 crore)

Indian Institute of Public Health (Rs 250 crore)

Ludhiana City Development under the National Urban Renewal Mission (Rs 4,000 crore)

The Integrated Check Post at Attari Railway Station (Rs 114 crore).
