PM arrives in Amritsar

Amritsar, December 19
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today arrived here by a special plane which landed at the Rajasansi airport at 10.25 pm.

Clad in white khadi kurta pyjama and light sky blue turban, Dr Manmohan Singh, accompanied by his wife Gursharan Kaur, Union Minister of State for Industries Ashwani Kumar and MP Parneet Kaur, was received by Governor Punjab Gen S.F Rodriguez (retd), Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and Deputy Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, along with senior leaders of the ruling party and bureaucrats of the Punjab Government.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to visit Jallianwala Bagh, Golden Temple and Durgiana Temple.

Dr Manmohan Singh has a hectic day ahead with the Congress organising a rally. The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the four-laning of the Amritsar-Wagah road and make a formal announcement of a mega project to strengthen the Wagah Joint Border Check Post. His other major engagement includes the change of guard at the Gobindgarh Fort as the PM takes the keys of the fort from the Panthers Division and hand it over to the DC.
