Punjab okays 35 mega projects

The Empowered Committee, which met here under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh, today approved 35 new mega projects worth Rs 7313.11 crore. These include 26 industrial, two agro and seven housing and township projects.

A government spokesman said the projects had the potential to provide jobs to nearly 61,050 persons.

Giving details, he said the projects approved included 16 multiplexes-cum-hotels and four hotels at Pathankot, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur, Patiala, Bathinda, Moga, Phagwara and Mohali district entailing an investment of Rs 2701.23 crore.

The committee also cleared two manufacturing projects to be set up in Ludhiana district with an investment of Rs 578.79 crore which would generate employment for 2,150 persons. He said the committee had also approved three projects of industrial parks in Hosiarpur, Mohali and Amritsar districts with an investment of Rs 709.05 crore. A project realting to information technology in Mohali district with an investment of Rs 27.50 crore and an employment potential of 650 persons was also cleared.

The spokesman further said that the committee also okayed two projects of Japfa Comfeed India Ltd and Bectors Food Specialized Ltd in the agricultural sector involving a investment of Rs 110 crore with a direct employment potential of 18,000 jobs.

Apart from this the committee approved seven housing projects with a total investment of Rs 3188.54 crore and an employment potential of 2,200 persons. The projects included those of Ideas Promoter & Developers (P) Ltd Ludhiana, PACL India Ltd at Mohali, TPSMS Projects & Consultants Ltd Chandigarh, Alka India Pvt Ltd New Delhi, and Sikandar Coloniser Pvt Ltd, Chandigarh.

He said with the approval of 35 new projects entailing an investment of Rs 7313.11 crore at today’s meeting, the committee had in all approved 317 mega projects in the industrial, housing and agro sectors at various meetings with a total investment of Rs 89736.37 crore during the past one year or so.
