Sensex crosses 13k milestone

Mumbai, October 30
Sensex today ended at an all-time high with the benchmark Bombay Stock Exchange index closing at 13,024. In the broader markets, Nifty was up 0.8 per cent or 30 points to close at 3,769.

Today’s biggest gainer was ICICI Bank, which closed 3.6 per cent or Rs 27 higher. Dr Reddy’s, Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank, Reliance Communication, Larsen & Toubro and Reliance Energy were the other gainers.

However today’s losers were led by Tata Motors at Rs 852 levels which closed 3.9 per cent or Rs 34 lower. Other losers included Satyam Computer, BHEL, Wipro, TCS, Ranbaxy, Gujarat Ambuja Cements and HDFC.

Bouncing from an early low of 12,844.85, Sensex hit an all-time high of 13,039.30 before ending with a 0.91 per cent rise over Friday’s closing of 12,906.81. It scored a 3.18 per cent or 401-point rise in the three-day rally.

Bank shares continued to be in limelight ahead of the RBI credit policy, which is unlikely to raise the interest rates.

Infosys Tech, RIL, Bharti Airtel and HDFC Bank were the major contributors to the Sensex rally.
