New Delhi, October 24
India today expelled Mohammed Farooq, a driver with the Pakistan High Commission here, for activities “incompatible” with his status - a term normally used in diplomacy for espionage.
Mr Farooq has been asked to leave the country within a week. The Pakistan High Commission here has been informed about this. Mr Farooq was caught four days ago for receiving sensitive documents from an Army man here.
On October 21, the Pakistan High Commission here issued a strong-worded statement saying the Pakistan Government had lodged a protest with the Indian Government over “illegal detention and manhandling” of Mr Farooq by Indian security personnel. “The harassment of Pakistani official is a violation of international conventions as well as the diplomatic norms,” the Pakistan High Commission statement said.
