No derogatory remarks on Kalam, explains Fernandes
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, October 16
NDA Convener George Fernandes is of the view that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has been a silent spectator to the gross and unprecedented misuse of the CBI by his government to browbeat political opposition.

He wonders if he should believe that Dr Singh is also a party to this blatant misuse. In a bold letter to the Prime Minister, the senior socialist leader and former Defence Minister has accused the UPA government of exploring fresh avenues to continue its policies of “lies, vendetta and witch hunt by misusing the CBI to register a false FIR’’ against him.

Mr Fernandes has also clarified that he did not make any “derogatory’’ remarks against President Kalam whom he held in high esteem. “Nor did I drag him into the controversy generated by the registration of the bogus FIR against me regarding the Barak matter. To set the record straight, it was the CBI itself in its Press note dated October 10,2006, which had dragged Dr Kalam into the controversy.’’

Referring to Dr Singh’s remark on Sunday that “I have no other expectation from him,’’ the NDA Convener said that he was amused no end by the remark. “I did expect you to act independently, courageously and unearth the truth out of the lies spoken by your party President. May I say that you have belied my expectations. The lies spoken by your party President on this issue have been exposed as no wrongdoing has been found against me as regards this matter.’’
