Patna, October 4
The first “Garib Rath”, a train with air-conditioned coaches targeting the poor and middle class passengers, hit the track today with Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav flagging it off at the Saharsa railway station in Bihar.
A brainchild of Mr Yadav, the bi-weekly train will run between Saharsa and Amritsar and passengers will have to pay Rs 595 for travelling in the chair car and Rs 695 in the sleeper coach.
It will originate from Saharsa on Tuesday and Friday, and on Wednesday and Sunday from Amritsar .
Mr Yadav claimed that with the introduction of this AC train, the poor would no longer view the AC bogies with awe as was the case earlier.”
