Over 2000 cases pertaining to labour disputes in the Doaba region remain unsettled. The reason: there has been no presiding officer here for the past six months.

Looking for his parents
 It has been unending task for Sant Ram alias Harjinder Singh, who has moved from pillar to post to trace his parents. He was in the city to check the records available at the State Protective Home here. Showing a copy of the record signed by Ms Poonam Arora, Superintendent at the home situated in Basti Gunja here, he said he had gathered information that he had been brought here as an infant from the State Aftercare Home in Amritsar along with his mother Sahi Shanti in 1976.

Special trains for Vaishno Devi pilgrims
The Northern Railways has planned to run special trains from Delhi to Jammu Tawi and Udhampur during the navratras till Divali (October 21) due to the increase in the number of pilgrims to Vaishno Devi.

Spice honour for 25 lucky winners

Students celebrate Bhagat Singh’s anniversary
The business club of the Department of Commerce, Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar, organised a declamation contest on patriotism. Twenty students from different departments of the college participated in the contest. Mankiran Kaur of BSc-II (non-medical) was declared first, followed by Anchal of MSc-I (physics).

PEOPLE’S CONCERN
Blocked sewerage spells misery for residents
Residents of New Sant Pura locality under ward No 10 of Kapurthala are living under hellish conditions for the past one month with sewage water over-flowing in gali No 2 and 3. The sewage water has not only accumulated in the lanes but it has also entered some houses due to blocked pipes. Jasbir Kala, in whose houses the sewage water has entered, told Jalandhar Plus that the residents of the locality had brought the matter the notice of Municipal Council authorities repeatedly but to no avail. Kala further said his two children Suman and Karan were suffering from severe stomach pain due to the unhygienic conditions.
