New Delhi, September 4
A Delhi court today issued non-bailable warrants against socialite Bina Ramani in case of cheating for acquiring a licence to run a bar at Mehrauli in South Delhi.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kamini Lau issued the warrants to be executed on or before September 15.
According to the police, Ramani obtained the licence misrepresenting that she was the owner of the restaurant.
In a relating case, absconding medical practitioner J.S. Bedi, charged with giving false medical certificates to one of the accused in the Jessica Lall murder case, today made an offer in the Delhi High Court to surrender before the police.
Reacting to the issuance of warrants, Bina Ramani has accused the Delhi Police of trying to keep her and her family, both key witnesses to the murder of Jessica Lall, away from the case.
Ramani claimed that the police had cooked up charges against her as the case was seven years old for which they had already paid penalty.
“The SIT of the Delhi Police has to say on whose side they are. Are they on the side of justice?” Ramani said.
She claimed that the police was trying to frame her and her family to keep them away from the investigation.
“We are key witnesses in the case, they are trying to eliminate us by raking up this old issue,” Ramani said adding that she had cordial relations with the Diwanchand family from whom they purchased the “Tamarind Court” premises 12 years ago. “All papers are transparent and in order.”
