The Delhi police today claimed to have seized a huge consignment of a banned drug worth Rs 200 crore from a container depot in the Badarpur area of South Delhi near the Delhi-Haryana border.
It arrested Vinod Sharma from his Kalkaji residence in this connection.
He basically hailed from Sitamarhi in Bihar.
It was the biggest drug haul here by the Delhi police.
In a raid late last night, the police arrested the accused following a tipoff.
Preliminary interrogation led to the recovery of 4,400 kg of Methaquonole, popularly known as mandrax.
The contraband, meant for a US customer, was kept in gunny bags of 20 kg each.
The police was investigating whether Vinod was a container thief or was connected to the global drug racket.
An investigation found him suspected to be involved in narcotics smuggling earlier.
The police had been on the lookout for Vinod for more than a month.
It was hopeful of gathering more information from him regarding the operations of the drug network.
The Delhi police announced a reward of Rs 500 for every kg of drug seized to the raiding party.
