3 ultras on PM house security: TV channel

New Delhi, August 15
Three Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists belonging to Baramulla in the Kashmir valley had joined CRPF and were put on duty Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s official residence in Race Course Road here, a news channel claimed tonight.

According to the channel, three militants — Gulzar Ahmad Lone, Mansur Ahmed and Mehrajuddin — had been trained in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir and surrendered to the authorities in 1990 and thereafter joined the CRPF.

The channel claimed that their antecedents were discovered after a service gun (carbine) went missing from the Prime Minister’s residence in 2004.

An FIR was filed by Head Constable Raj Kumar in this connection who was later compulsorily retired. But the three militants were still serving, the channel claimed.

CRPF Director General J.K. Sinha, however, denied the allegations.

Mr Sinha said the three CRPF personnel were part of a battalion which was never used for the Prime Minister’s security.

A CRPF spokesman said while one of the three CRPF men was recruited in 1988 when there was no militancy in Jammu and Kashmir, the two others were recruited in 1995 and 1998.

They were all questioned after the carbine went missing in 2004 and were given a clean chit, he said.

However, the CRPF would verify the antecedents of the three once again.

Sources said one of the three could have been a surrendered militant. — PTI
