Jubbal (Rohru), August 13
Six labourers were injured in a flashflood in Bhagoli nullah triggered by a cloudburst on the Giri Ganga range near Jubbal in Rohru area, last evening. All injured were rushed to the government hospital in Jubbal from where one labourer who was serious had been referred to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital at Shimla.
A 100-metre stretch of the Shimla-Rohru road was washed away in the flood disrupting the flow of traffic completely on this road. Many vehicles were stranded on both the sides.
An official of the local administration said that 10 labourers were working on the construction of a bridge on this nullah when suddenly the flow of water increased to an alarming situation. Huge trees and boulders also came with water from upstream of the nullah where the cloudburst struck. Six labourers who had gone in the flow of water were saved by their fellow workers.
Local Sub-Divisional Magistrate Amarjit Singh reached the spot and made arrangements for medical aid to injured workers. Those injured had been identified as Shiv Charan, Tet Ram, Lakshman, Hari Lal, Prithvi Singh and Rattan Singh.
The SDM gave immediate relief of Rs 10,000 to Rattan Singh on the spot who was injured seriously in the incident while all other injured workers had been given a relief of Rs 5000.
Meanwhile, a senior official of the state Transport Department said that the route of buses had been changed via Kharapathar-Sheelghat-Patsari so that passengers and tourists did not suffer. The Public Works Department after the flow of water in the nullah was decreased had started filling the damaged portion of the road.
