Fodder scam: verdict reserved
Legal Correspondent

New Delhi, July 26
The Supreme Court today reserved its judgment on a petition seeking cancellation of the bail of Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav in the fodder scam and disproportionate assets (DA) cases on ground of his alleged interference in the judicial process after the UPA government came to power.

After two-day long arguments on the petition which mainly raised the issues of the change of the Special Judge in Patna, replacing public prosecutor and “hurried” disposal of income tax cases against Lalu Prasad by the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) after he became the Union Minister, a Bench comprising Mr Justice K.G. Balakrishnan, Mr Justice A.R. Lakshmanan and Mr Justice S.H. Kapadia reserved the verdict.

These were cited the main ground for cancellation of the bail of Lalu Prasad by JD(U) leader Rajiv Ranjan Singh and BJP leader Sushil Modi who were the original petitioners in the fodder scam case in the Patna High Court in 1996.

The Registrar General of the High Court failed to give categorical reply as to why there were no grading available regarding his performance before the High Court's standing committee when his name was considered for appointment.
