10 HAP personnel killed in accident

Ten personnel of the Haryana Armed Police (HAP) were killed when their bus collided head-on with a truck on the Narnaul-Singhana road, near Raghunath Pura in Mahendergarh district, today.

The HAP personnel were on their way back from the firing range of RAghunath Pura to the headquarters of the HAP in Madhuban, Karnal.

Those who lost their lives in the accident are Om Prakash and Raj Kumar, both from Narnaul, Satbir (Kaithal), Bhagh Singh (Yamunanagar), Inderjeet (Karnal), Janak Raj (Faridabad), Labh Singh (Kaithal), Dharam Pal (Mewat), Raj Kumar (Kurukshetra) and Jagdev (Jhajjar).

Nine others suffered injuries and were admittred to Pt. B.D.S. Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Rohtak.

There were 21 police personnel in the bus who were undergoing training of Assistant Sub-Inspector. The driver of the bus, Chander Bhan, got minor injuries.

The Chief Minister, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda, expressed shock and grief over the death of the HAP personnel and announced an ex-gratia grant of Rs 3 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the injured, along with free treatment facility.

He also announced that the families of the deceased would get all benefits under the new ex-gratia policy.
