Venugopal’s ouster stayed
HC passes interim order till Aug 17

New Delhi, July 7
In a major victory for sacked All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Director Dr P. Venugopal in the fight for autonomy of the institute in his faceoff with Health Minister Ambumani Ramadoss, the Delhi High Court today stayed the resolution for his removal passed on July 5.

A meeting of the UPA coordination committee is likely to be scheduled before the monsoon session of Parliament commencing this month-end to sort out differences on the Centre’s disvestment plans which were put on hold by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh yesterday following objections from the DMK.

SAD expels Calcutta for 6 years

As expected, the SAD’s disciplinary committee headed by Mr Gurdev Singh Badal today expelled Mr Manjit Singh Calcutta, a member of the Political Affairs Committee, for six years from the primary membership of the party.

CBI books 3 in coffin scam

The CBI has registered a case in the coffin scam, during the tenure of Mr George Fernandes as Defence Minister ,against three senior Army officials and a US-based funeral service company for allegedly supplying poor quality aluminum caskets at “exhorbitant rates” after the Kargil war.
