Sangrur, July 6
Gastroenteritis a water-borne disease, has gripped two bastis, Roza Patti and Dhaliwal Patti of Chhajli village, near Sunam. Due to the disease, Gurdial Kaur (65) and Prabjot Kaur (8) died yesterday, while more than 75 persons have been suffering from vomiting and diarrhoea in the village.
Talking to The Tribune over the phone this afternoon Mr Chhaju Ram Garg, SMO, Primary Health Centre, Kohrian, said that more than 60 patients were treated today in the OPD at Chhajli village, while 10 patients had been admitted. He said a serious patient had been referred to the Civil Hospital, Sunam, for further treatment.
A team of the Health Department, comprising Dr Chhaju Ram Garg, Dr Kirpal Singh and the para-medical staff, today visited the village. Dr S.K. Bansal, Civil Surgeon, Sangrur, also visited the Chhajli village to take stock of the situation. He spent some hours there to supervise the treatment, given to the patients.
The Health Department has also formed 10 teams of doctors to control the situation. Four teams today visited the houses and distributed chlorine tablets as a preventive measure among the villagers.
Dr Garg said that they had collected four water samples from Roza Patti and Dhaliwal Patti today. These samples had been sent to a Chandigarh laboratory for test.
