Decision on Bhajan’s resignation today

New Delhi, July 2
The Congress high command appears to be inclined to accept the resignation of Haryana PCC President Bhajan Lal, who put in his papers yesterday making a scathing attack on the leadership over the “pathetic condition” of the state of affairs in the state. “Lal’s resignation may be accepted. A decision will be taken tomorrow”, highly placed party sources said adding that it was now immaterial whether the resignation had been received by the AICC as the news had already appeared in the media.

Mr Bhajan Lal has been sulking since he was denied the Chief Ministership after the Assembly polls 15 months back as he lost the leadership race to Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

“The recent PCC list has broken the patience of the real Congress workers at the grassroot level who have fought the likes of O P Chautala, late Bansi Lal and the BJP to keep the Congress flag high,” Lal said in a letter to party chief Sonia Gandhi.

Lal said he was taking the step as he could not see “the humiliation of aam aadmi (common men),” the grassroot Congress workers and the real Congress leaders who are my family and for whom I am willing to sacrifice my life”.

The septuagenarian leader’s action came close on the heels of the recent announcement of the PCC executive and office bearers where his supporters including two sons were sidelined. — PTI
