Chandigarh, July 1
A Lieutenant Colonel accused of molesting an NCC cadet faces trial by a general court martial (GCM). The Review Assessment of Trial (RAT), ordering trial by the GCM, was issued by Headquarters, Western Command, three days ago.

The officer, Lt-Col S.S .Madra has been attached with Headquarters, 37 Infantry Brigade, for the purpose. Recording of the summary of evidence, on which the RAT was issued, was completed last month, sources said.

This is the first case of its kind reported in the NCC.

It may be recalled that an NCC cadet from the Government College of Girls had alleged that she was molested by the officer during an NCC training camp organised on the premises of the Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Sector 28, here in September, 2005.

The officer, on his part, has denied the charges against him and has also contended that the allegations against him are motivated to settle personal scores, sources added.

Based upon the complaint of the girl, NCC authorities had ordered a court of inquiry (CoI) to ascertain facts of the case.
