Srinagar, July 1
At least 20 persons were injured here this morning when the police burst teargas shells and resorted to baton charge to disperse demonstrators carrying the body of a youth, allegedly killed by security forces at Khayam Chowk last night.

Inayatullah Bhat, 30, according to the police, was killed when the CRPF personnel spotted him moving under suspicious circumstances towards their camp at Bishembarnagar late last night. An FIR has been lodged and the CRPF has ordered an inquiry, to be conducted by DIG, Operations, S.R. Ojha.

The youth, whose family runs Bakeway bakery shop in the locality, was "mentally unwell", the police said. He had come out of his house located opposite the CRPF camp housed in Ikhwan Hotel when the incident took place, the residents and shocked family members said.

The location is less than 1 km from the residence of Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Beigh on the MA Road. Eyewitnesses and family members said the youth had come out for a routine check of the bakery unit at the end of the day when he was called by the CRPF personnel and fired upon. Then he was dragged by the securitymen towards the gate, where bullets were again pumped into his body, leaving him in a pool of blood.
