Things took an ugly turn when an angry mob, in a fit of rage over the custodial death of a 20-year-old Dalit boy, pelted stones at the police station, broke windows of vehicles of the police and blocked traffic in front of the police station here today.

According to information, the police arrested Madan Lal, alias Tinku, a resident of Basti Shekhan, around 8 am in connection with a theft case following a complaint lodged by junk dealer Joginder, alias Biloo.

The police took Tinku to the city police station, where he was interrogated and he subsequently died around 10 am under mysterious circumstances.

As soon as the news regarding the death of Tinku in police custody reached his parents and relatives, they got furious and rushed to the police station.

Police officials said Madan Lal, alias Tinku, was taken into custody after a complaint was lodged by Joginder, alias Biloo, a junk dealer, who had caught him red-handed while attempting theft at his shop.
