Ultras gun down 8 labourers in Kulgam

Srinagar, June 12
At least eight migrant labourers were killed and five injured when unidentified militants opened fire upon them in the Kulgam area of Anantnag district this afternoon.

The police said the militants shot dead eight labourers at Wadroo, near Kulgam, in Anantnag district around 4 pm. Five others were injured in the shootout, while the search for suspected militants had been launched.

Five labourers died on the spot, one succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to a hospital, while two others died in the hospital.

Those injured in the shootout have been shifted to the SMHS Hospital here. The incident took place when some labourers from Nepal and Bihar gathered there after the day’s work. The assailants fled from the spot soon after the attack.

The identity of those killed was being ascertained. The security forces have cordoned off the area and search for the militants responsible for the incident has been launched.

The police claimed that the Hizbul Mujahideen was believed to be responsible for the attack.

In another incident in the nearby Homeshalibugh area, some unidentified militants shot dead Mushtaq Ahmad, an Army jawan who was on leave. He was reportedly dragged out of his home and shot dead, police sources said.

Unidentified militants opened indiscriminate fire on a police party, killing Head Constable Bashir Ahmad and critically wounding an SPO, near Government Degree College, Sopore, in Baramula district this afternoon.
