Hrishikesh Mukherjee critical

Veteran filmmaker Hrishikesh Mukherjee is critically ill with chronic renal failure and has been admitted to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital.

Mukherjee was brought in on Saturday after he contracted pneumonia and sepsis, according to a bulletin put out by the hospital. He has been admitted to the ICU. Mukherjee, 84, has been undergoing dialysis at the hospital for some time.

According to the bulletin, Mukherjee is responding to treatment and his blood pressure and heart rate has been brought to normal.

Mukherjee is best known for his soft musicals of the 1960s and 1970s that scored at the box office. ‘Anand’, ‘Abhimaan’, ‘Chupke Chupke’ and ‘Khubsoorat’ are among his best-known films. Among the awards Mukherjee bagged included Dadasaheb Phalke award and the Padma Vibhushan.
