Teacher, 15 kids die as boat capsizes in Kashmir
Srinagar, May 30
It was a nightmarish experience for a group of 32 schoolchildren from Handwara, whose picnic to the Wular Lake in north Kashmir ended in the death of 17 persons, including 15 students. The tragedy struck when the naval boat they were riding in capsized near Watlab.

Supreme Court warns striking doctors
New Delhi, May 30
Concerned over the plight of patients due to ongoing strike by medicos on the Centre’s decision to introduce 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in Central institutions of higher learning, the Supreme Court today held a stern warning to them to end their 19-day-old stir after it had taken cognisance of the matter or else they might face action for contempt of court.

In a major embarrassment to the UPA government, President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam today returned the Prevention of Disqualification Amendment Bill on the Office of Profit to Parliament for reconsideration. It had been passed by the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha in the just-concluded Budget Session.
