Tribune News Service

Mandi, May 27
Family members of Hitender Singh, who was shot dead in Pennsylvania, USA, on Thursday night, are in a state of shock at their residence here.
Confirming the death of the Mandi youth, an official in the Ministry of External Affairs told The Tribune on the phone from New Delhi that the youth was shot at and later died in a hospital on Thursday night. His body was being flown back to the country and then to his native town, he added.

Father of the victim Khem Chand, who works in Canara Bank here, said he had received the message from his son's friend in the USA, that Hitender was shot at while he was coming back to his residence after attending his shift that day.

"He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead by doctors”, said the father. His son was pursuing his course in medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, USA.

Meanwhile, his body was expected to reach here in a day or two as the ministry had taken up the matter with their counterparts in the USA, said an official.
