Srinagar, May 25
Four tourists, including a woman and a child, were killed and seven injured, two of them seriously, when the bus in which they were travelling was rocked by an explosion near Hazratbal on the outskirts of Srinagar this evening.
The explosion took place at about 6 p.m. soon after the Prime Minister’s departure for the Union Capital, after presiding over the two-day round-table conference this evening. The bus carrying tourists from Gujarat was returning to this place from Sonmarg. The explosion took place at Batapora near Hazratbal, when the bus was on its way to Nishat via Hazratbal, as the boulevard road had been closed to traffic in view of the round-table conference at the SKICC.
Those killed included a woman, Krishna, and child while seven were injured, all of them from Surat in Gujarat. The injured have been shifted to hospitals here.
One report said the explosion was caused when suspected militants hurled a grenade towards the bus. Another report, however, said that it was caused due to an explosion from inside the bus. The driver of the bus was being questioned.
A series of explosions have been reported during the past few days ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit to preside over the second roundtable here.
