Protesting student critically ill

Amritsar, May 16
An MBBS student, who was on a hunger strike for the last two days protesting against the increase in reservations in educational institutions, fell critically ill today and was admitted to hospital.

“All of a sudden the condition of the Dr Rajnish Sidhu who was sitting on hunger strike has gone critical with the appearance of symptoms like vomitting and high fever besides dizziness. He was immediately shifted to the emergency ward of the Government Guru Nanak Hospital here,” vice-president of Amritsar Medical Student’s Association Ankush Goel said.

He has been administered fluids and further treatment is on, he said.

Meanwhile, more then 200 medical students and doctors continued their protest against the proposal of reservation for OBCs in educational institutions.

Jalandhar: While extending support to the on-going agitation by medicos against the proposed reservation in the higher studies, General Category Welfare Federation (gcwf), Punjab, today declared that federation members would join the proposed agiation on May 25 at five different medical colleges in the state. — PTI
