New Delhi, May 13
The monsoon appears to be on time this year.
This is what is being indicated by the Indian weather forecast system, which is showing signs of the monsoon in the country to be almost on time and not much delayed.
The normal onset of monsoon is around June 1.
The setting in of the Bay of Bengal current of monsoon usually takes place around May 15.
This is the time when the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the adjoining sea areas receive their first rain, says National Centre for Medium Range Forecast spokesperson Akhilesh Gupta.
This current does not give rain to land areas.
This current appears to be building up in the Bay of Bengal and is most likely to strike Andaman and Nicobar Islands around May 17 or 18.
As the current is expected to be in time, the Arabian Sea current can be expected to follow.
There is no correlation between the two currents.
Under normal circumstances, the two are separated by about 15 days, he adds.
